A chemo port is a small device that is implanted subcutaneously usually in the upper chest or upper arm (often known as a PICC-Port). The port body is connected to a thin catheter (either silicone or polyurethane) that terminates in the superior vena cava just before the right atrium. It is ideally implanted into patients who require long term, recurrent peripherally incompatible medications. Barring any complications, the port can remain in situ as long as required.
